Integrated Care
Economics by Design has supported clients with investment and strategy decisions relating to service transformation and re-orientation of models of care.
We have also supported the development of economic analysis to support investment in service improvement from prevention through to treatment.

Case Studies
North West London Integrated Care Board Child Health Hub
In 2022, Economics By Design (EBD) was appointed by North West London Integrated Care Board to undertake an economic analysis to support the development of a Business Case for the spread and adoption of the Child Health Hub model across all North West London Primary Care Networks.
Child Health Hubs are a successful, established example of Integrated Care for Children. A summary of the work is provided in this economics lens. In 2023, NWL ICB took the decision to support the further roll out of Child Health Hubs.
Transition funding has been provided, to enable the release of clinician time to establish this model of working across Primary Care Networks in North West London.
In addition, funding for coordination and Population Health Management has been provided to new and existing Hubs.
The ICB Children and Young People’s Clinical Network has an active work-stream which aims to further develop the Child Health Hub model, enabling a shift towards a proactive model of care to ensure that the needs of children and families can be met at the earliest point, and to build upon the efficiencies in health utilisation that are delivered as a result of this model.
Other Publications
In 2022 The District Councils Network commissioned Economics by Design and the University of East Anglia to evidence the health economic value of their members’ leisure and wellbeing services, and the further impact they could potentially have on reducing health inequalities.
The findings indicate that enhancing physical activity, particularly among the most disadvantaged individuals, can result in a decrease in diseases.
This would not only save the healthcare system from the costs associated with treating these diseases but also improve the overall quality of life.
Furthermore, it would yield economic benefits in the form of improved health, enabling individuals to be more productive for longer periods of time.
Additionally, addressing health inequalities by narrowing the gap in healthy life expectancy between different socioeconomic groups is another positive outcome. The study also estimates the potential reduction in NHS expenditure as a result of these interventions.
In 2023, Economics by Design was delighted to support Cancer Research UK in the development of its Manifesto for Cancer Research and Care and in particular to provide the economic modelling to support the estimates of the economic impact of various policy recommendations in its Programme for UK Government.
